CSS or Fulbright?

Dear all, I am in a fix, and would appreciate advice on the matter. I am considering appearing for CSS in 2014 and getting familiarized with the format of the exam. Meanwhile, I have been selected as Prinicipal Candidate for Fulbright Scholarship, alhumdulillah (leaving this fall, if all goes well In Sha Allah) but my parents would much rather have me appear for CSS. Unfortunately, next year would be my last chance to appear in the exam. I know, that everything points to my going with the Fulbright option, and I don't want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for CSS (for which I have no guarantees that I would even pass,my parents, on the other hand, are pretty confident and it would be a dream come true for them). However, Fulbright does not have an age-limit so I would have the option to apply again in the coming years. I just don't want to have any regrets about this. I understand it's a case of 'the road not travelled...' Any advice would be appreciated, particularly by senior members.

Also, I am a newbie to this forum, I figured this was the appropriate thread to post to..sorry if it interrupts the discussion or is irrelevant. thanks in advance.

It all depends upon your interest. Your goals, your future plans. If you want to become a civil servant and willing to serve for your country then go for CSS, otherwise you have better opportunity of the scholarship.

Go for CSS ...

New opportunities comes when we avail the one in hand :)

I 'll advise you to go for scholarship because the results of CSS are sometime unexpected and baffling moreover lot of uncertainty prevails in this game. No doubt hard work plays a significant role but luck factor can not be ignored. If it is possible for you to return for exams next year then you may consider CSS alongside Fulbright. If it is possible to get your right of scholarship freeze for one year then it would again be a god option. But throwing away an excellent opportunity for some thing uncertain would not be a wise decision:nono. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush. Good luck

This is entirely your own decision, however, in my opinion you should go for the Fulbright scholarship because:

i). Luck matters a lot in CSS. You may have lot of hardwork and flunk in any subject so you become out in very first round of written examination, or even you pass it you may not get allocation, mean you may become out in second round, in case you are successful enough to get allocation there is no surety that you will land in group of your choice, you/your family may be thinking for Foreign Service (FSP) or Pakistan Administrative Service (PAS/former DMG) for which you really need good merit position and that is highly unpredictable /unsurety that you may get it...

ii). You are 27 now and having 16 years schooling, while the minimum age of css is 21 with bachelors degree, mean you could had appeared for css in previous 5-6 years, but you did not appear mean css was neither your nor your family priority !

iii). You have only one chance for css and you have already been selected for Fulbright, mean you have a bird in your hand and another bird in bush and you do not have a good gun/shooting practice to shoot that bird , we can think that you are thinking to have an adventure, dear have a sagacious approach, this is not your age for making adventures.

iv). You can become a civil servant after pursuing your studies through Fulbright scholarship.

v). Fulbright is neither a child's play and you may not have a chance for it again and many civil servants also aspire and apply for Fulbright scholarship so there is no problem in availing this opportunity. It will be a good decision to go for this scholarship.

Congratulations for your selection for Fullbright scholarship. Dear I am also interested to apply for this scholarship but I know nothing about it, How to apply? What are its requirements? I have recently completed MBA and waitnig for result. Can you please guide me how to prepare for GRE, recommend a good book for it, I visited their website it was clearly mentioned that three years experience is required for Business Administration. Can I apply for another discipline other than mine e.g Economics? if yes than still the requirements of experience exists or it remitts?
I have completed 16 years of education, Am I applicable to apply for an MS level ? Please answer my queries. Thanks
