Default Democracy - Ultimate political strategy game!

Democracy - Ultimate political strategy game!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The ultimate political strategy game is Democracy! " Make policies, laws and influence voters! Win the elections which are conducted periodically in your choice of country!"

Democracy is the title of a new political strategy game by Positech Games
Democracy starts with you as President (or Prime-Minister) of a modern country. The country is a run as a simple democracy where you need to get over 50% of the vote each election in order to remain in power. The object of the game is to stay in power as long as possible (there are no limits as to how many terms you may be elected president).

"Games such as democracy are an important step forward in the evolution of education" - Kristofer Poland, Instructor of Political Science, Ohio University

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Democracy is a detailed simulation game that is 'turn based' where each turn of the game represents 3 months of time. Elections are held every 4 years. The game has a complex internal model to represent the population of your country. A large number of different 'voter groups' are modeled, such as Motorists, Trade-Unionists, Unemployed people, Wealthy people etc. The simulation allows people to be in several groups at once, so for example, an unemployed poor motorist will be influenced by the opinions of all 3 groups when it comes to election day.

The player influences the voters and the country by putting in place policies. Policies are things like "Free Health Care" and can be modified using sliders to decide how much money (and effort) is put into each policy. Different voting groups will have very different (often conflicting) views as to which policies are desirable.

"I highly recommend this title for strategy and number fans of all types, and those who would like a great political simulation" - Walter Hare cosmosgaming.com

The simulation behind the game also models a large number of variables which determine the condition of your country. Your policies might be popular at first, but they might lead to a fall in productivity, increased commuter journey times, increased air pollution... All these variables come back to haunt you, and to stay in power over several terms you will have to think far ahead.

What's so special about this game?

Democracy is the only game of its kind. Most new PC games are centered around 3D graphics. Democracy is a complex simulation that isn't competing on graphical features. Democracy has a highly advanced simulation behind it, designed to recreate a modern political system as accurately as possible. This is no dumbed down mass market game, but a real simulation for the kind of gamer who enjoyed games like Civilization, Alpha Centauri and Sim City 4. We have tried to make as involving a sim as we can, whilst at the same time keeping the game fun.

How closely does the game model the various countries?

Only some of the details of each country are modeled, such as the level of unemployment, the national debt and income, and the countries population. As president, there is nothing to stop you turning America into a socialist state, or to stop you legalizing machine guns and heroin as British prime minister...

What countries can you be in charge of?

Currently the list is Sweden,USA, Britain, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and France. More may be added before release, and countries can easily be added by modders.

What isn't in the game? you can't model everything!

True, but we are doing our best. The big thing you won't find is electoral trickery. The electorate in the game are well-informed, rational and always turn up to cast their vote. The political system is proportional representation and its assumed there is only one opposing party. This is a big difference to other 'election games' which concentrate on speech-making and winning TV debates rather than actually making policy decisions (and making those policies work). Having said that we do model a huge amount, lots of simulation detail, a huge number of totally independent voters, lots of policies, events and policy dilemmas, plus voters holding grudges and even voter cynicism and anger.

What kind of PC will I need to run this?

Democracy has a highly advanced neural network that powers the simulation, but most modern computers are more than capable of handling it. As this is a turn based game, the only slowdown you will see is when you click the next turn button anyway. As for the graphics, Democracy doesn't have a 3D world to render (there is no need for one in a game like this) so you should be fine even if your video card struggles with the latest 3D games. And best of all, there is a fully playable demo so you can check it runs on your system before ordering.
