Lightbulb Career in Law

Seniors,

Need advise. What career opportunities are there for a law (LL. B) graduate besides CJ-cum-JM? I have heard about government lawyers in subordinate and superior judiciary. Are they appointed on merit? What are further fields where a law graduate could find place purely on merit?

Thanks in Advance.
