I applied in March 2016 and got 79 marks, and topped all Pakistan, with the domicile of ICT. I received two interview letters for the post of Assistant Director, which was scheduled on 9 October 2016, one for Merit and one for Punjab, and finally received the appointment letter on 2 November 2016. It should be noted that ICT domicile holders are considered in Punjab, unless separately specified.
There are a few things I must share about the entire process. 1. The syllabus content has a wide range. The 15 marks portion of secretariat instructions, office procedures and the rules of business 1973 offer relatively straight questions. Its very easy to score 15 of 15 in this portion. But what I had observed was that the majority left the portion on luck and considered it generally easy. I remember there were candidates who told me on the test day that who would study 129 pages of secretariat instructions? and those who studied, just went through the content and took it light. Questions were very simple, and that made them confident on their perception about the subject that it was just a matter of "common sense". The result proved them wrong later on. Secondly, its a common concern of most of the candidates having non-management related degrees that this portion will be easier for candidates having management related degrees. That is not true. Because there are manuals available on the subject which can be studied and understood by anyone, doctors, engineers, bio-scientists, anyone! 2. The portion of business communication is again very general, they ask you questions mainly from the pearson editions, available on the internet. 3. The management portion covers the basic management: very little about the basics of management, and a lot from the project management. Many questions were picked from the sample questions of PMP certification available on the website of PMI 4. English portion is the game changer. Most of us do not really understand the art of precise writing. Our writing at essay is again very weak. Anyone who gets 20+ in the english (subjective) section has a good chance to stand out in the competition 5. Interviews are very short, and disturbing. But the criteria is quite different, still not very clear. They will consider your degrees, and experience and a lot of other things too. But most of all, your score in the written. If you have topped in the written exam, you'll not have to worry about the interview at all. Maybe, you will think you haven't performed well in the interview but trust me, if your written score is good, like if you are among the top 5 candidates, you'll get the offer of appointment. 6. The process takes time. After the result, you'll have to wait a lot for the interviews, but not more than one and a half months. 7. The process is purely on merit. Don't worry about nepotism and favoritism Last but not the least, don't worry about the difficulty level, the merit goes accordingly. There are only a few of this large pool of candidates who would clear the test with flying colors anyway. I will post my suggestions for the successful candidates about the interviews once the date is scheduled. Good Luck for the Interviews!
