It stands for Graduate Admission Test and is conducted by National Testing Service (NTS).

There are two types of GAT which are as follows.

1. GAT General: It is conducted for admission in Masters Program. If anyone qualifies this test, he/she will be able to get admission in Masters program of Pakistani Universities. It is not mandatory to appear in this test, he/she may appear in admission test, conducted by varsity in which he/she is applying, for admission in Masters Program. It is valid for only two years. Passing score is 50 or above out of 100.
For details, visit http://nts.org.pk/Products/GATGEN/ga...troduction.php

For preparation of GAT General, refer GAT General Book (Caravan Series)

2. GAT Subject: It is conducted for admission in PhD programs in Pakistani Universities. If anyone qualify this test, he/she will be able to get admission in PhD program. As far as I know, very few universities conduct test for PhD admission. Most of the universities ask candidates to appear in GAT Subject although it is against the judgement passed by Lahore High Court. It is also valid for two years. Passing Criteria is 60% score or 50 percentile.

Yes, some companies like FFC also ask to appear in GAT General Test for induction.

It seems you did not explore the link I referred for GAT General. Anyway, GAT A is GAT General which is a term used to indicate test pattern / paper distribution.

GAT A Test is for Engineering and Business graduates. It includes 35% Verbal Reasoning, 30% Analytical Reasoning and 35% Quantitative Reasoning.

GAT B Test is for Art, Humanities and Social Sciences graduates which includes 50% Verbal Reasoning, 20% Analytical Reasoning and 30% Quantitative Reasoning.

For GAT C and GAT D, please visit http://nts.org.pk/Products/GATGEN/gat-g-paper-dist.php

Let me simplify. Suppose yiu have done two masters in social sc. One is IR & 2nd is Pol Sc. Since both are in same category of social sc. Now can I apply for GAT on both at the same time. But I see test is conducted one time. So how can I apply for second one?

Okay, I am supposing I have completed 2 master programs (16 years) of IR and Pol Science. Now, I wish to take admission in M.Phil for which GAT General, particularly GAT B, will be useful. On qualifying GAT General, I will be able to take admission in M.Phil (IR) or in M.Phil (Pol Science).
