The task of the assistant is just to put up newly coming cases on files and maintenance of files. Yes, there are hundred percent chances of promotions. A few days back I met Director General of Gas in the Ministry of Petroleum who himself told me that he was recruited as Assistant and now he is DG Gas. Now you can yourself get the idea of promotions. Up to 19 scale promotions are due, further, one or two promotions depend on performance. Assistant is recruited in 15 scale. Next promotion after 5 years is 16 scale as Deputy Assistant Director, and then after 3 years as Assistant Director (BS-17), then Deputy Director and then Director and then Director General.

So far as the time is concerned, I didn't give it much time. More accurately I would say I didn't prepare for that test. It was my extempore attempt. Because I had been a CSS exam candidate and also appeared in the PCS exam, and also in a number of exams for different jobs. But if you ask me what time should be given for better preparation for such exams. I would suggest 4 to 6 hours daily is sufficient if you study consistently with full concentration. Then it won't be a big task I think. And I don't know much about techniques. But I applied only one technique that was the collection of facts about the topics as much as I could gather. It helped me a lot in gaining a wide variety and collection of facts. For these exams, you need specific preparation of certain areas I already mentioned in the previous post. and NTS, SPSC and FPSC are different institutions and their approach is also different, you need to keep in view their syllabus while preparing and appearing in exams conducted by them.
