FPSC Lecturer ENGLISH - BS17 Test

Test for post of Lecturer English was conducted by FPSC today, 9th November, 2010 at various centers countrywide. I appeared from H-9 center, Islamabad. Is there anyone who took the same test ? Let's analyze the questions and their correct answers. Here are some of the questions which I can recall.

Find out the grammatical, spelling or syntax mistakes in following:

1. This country hasn't enough fire fighters in case of an emergency.

I think it should be does not have rather than hasn't.

2. Human perceptions are generally made up of both psychological or sensory organs.

It should be and instead of or

3. Word WILLOWY is nearest in meaning to?

Ans: thin.

4. Word FERAL is nearest in meaning to?

Ans: Wild

5. Word Occult is nearest in meaning to?

Ans: Magical

6. Word 'APATHY' is nearest in meaning to?

Ans: Indifference

Any rectification would be appreciated.

Class Room Management

Class Room Management
PearsonLongman.com Great Teachers Primary Place: Find ideas, techniques and solutions for your primary classroom
July/August 2011
When teaching primary levels, it is important to have different classroom
dynamics. The activities should bring students the opportunity to experience
individual work, pairwork, groupwork and whole class work. The diversification
in the way we group students in a language learning environment is very
important so that we can help students to develop different skills.
When working individually, students have the opportunity to reflect about what
they have learned and to put it into practice by themselves, either internalizing
the knowledge or realizing what their doubts are.
On the other hand, when working in pairs, groups or in a whole class setting,
students are part of fostering cooperative learning, where they learn with/from
each other. Also, students tend to participate more in class when engaged in
an activity in which they can express themselves in a situation close to one
they would participate in real life.
Different class groupings are also positive for the teacher, who is then able to
monitor individuals or small groups’ performances at a time instead of having
to monitor all the students at the same time.
To help you vary the ways of dividing students into pairs and groups we have
listed some suggestions below.
1. Alphabetical Order
Students are paired or grouped in alphabetical order, according to their
first or last name. Alternatively, you can also divide them according to
the number of letters in their name.PearsonLongman.com Great Teachers Primary Place: Find ideas, techniques and solutions for your primary classroom

2. Animal Sounds
This is a loud but fun way to divide students into pairs or groups. Have
names of animals in slips of paper. Distribute them and ask students not
to show their paper to each other. When they are ready, ask them to
start making the sound of that animal that they have on the slip of
paper. They have to find the other members of their animal family, by
grouping themselves according to the sound they make.
3. Birthday Order
Students are paired or grouped according to their month or day of birth.
E.g.: Group 1 from January to June and Group 2 from July to December;
odd and even number days, etc.
4. Candies
Pass out small colored candies in multiple colors. Students are paired or
grouped by the same color of candy. Alternatively, you can ask them to
form a rainbow with the candies and then have a group formed. After
the activity, they may eat the candies.
5. Class Band
Divide the students into groups of four anyway you want to or let them
choose the students who are going to be part of their group. Each group
chooses who is going to be the singer, the drummer, the guitar player or
the keyboard player. Then, ask all the drummers to get together, then
all singers, and so on. Alternatively, you can do the same with sports
category or parts of the house.
6. Colored Chips
Give a colored chip to each student, or have students pick up one from a
bag. You can combine colors. E.g.: same colors together; different colors
together; mix two of the same color chips and two different ones, etc.
7. Colored Pencils
Have some colored pencils in a bag/can. Students who get the same
colors are in the same group (or pairs). If you want to form groups of
four students, have four pencils of each color. Alternatively, you can
form pairs by light and dark colors only. E.g.: dark blue – light blue;
dark green – light green, etc.PearsonLongman.com Great Teachers Primary Place: Find ideas, techniques and solutions for your primary classroom
July/August 2011
8. Concentric Circles
Students make two circles. The students in the inner circle talk to the
ones in the outer circle. Then all students from the outer circle move to
the right and talk to different students. This way, they keep meeting
different students and have the opportunity to repeat the activity several
times. Alternatively, half of the class can stay in their seats and the
other half moves around going from desk to desk in clockwise direction
to talk to different students.
9. Facing Rows
The students in the front row turn to face second row, third rows to face
fourth row, and so on. The same procedure can be used with the
students on their left/right.
10. Favorites
Group or pair students according to their favorite leisure activity. E.g.:
playing sports, dancing, etc. Alternatively, you can choose other
categories such as favorite colors, animals, etc.
11. Fruit Salad
Have each student choose their favorite fruit or give out pictures of fruit
to each of them. Then, they form groups according to kinds of fruit. A
fruit salad must have at least four different ingredients.
12. Horseshoe Setting
This setting focuses on the board, but there’s still space for pairwork and
groupwork. It’s possible to have singles desks (pairwork) or double
desks (groupwork).
