Post About GD Pilot Course in PAF.

Salam Everyone .

1) Does anybody know about GD Pilot course of PAF, when it will be announced?

2) Do they have Graduate course for GD Pilot? I know in Army they have finished the graduate course but I have heard that it is still present in PAF?

3) Can you tell me about career in "Air Defense"? Is it as good and important as GD Pilot? What are the duties of Air Defense Personnel? Plz tell about this in detail.

Thank you so much in advance.

Induction in GD(P) Branch of PAF is carried out twice every year but this year Induction will be done only once due to the availability of a considerable No. of Sargodhians and Topians for the last course. The induction is likely to be announced in September this year. Keep checking the newspapers for advertisement.

Yes they offer Graduate courses but not in permanent commission. Graduate courses are available only for Short Service Commission(SSC) in A&SD branch. For induction through SSC and SPSSC in other branches like MET, Logistics, IT etc one needs a masters degree in the relevant field.
From your id, I presume that you are a doctor. You can therefore apply in medical branch. For eligibility criteria for various branches, check this link

An Air Defence officer operates sophisticated radars; acts as the far-seeing eyes of a fighter pilot and often gives the edge to come out victorious in aerial battles. It is definitely a good and important career but NOT as important as that in GD(P). Air Defence officers are likely to reach the ranks of Air Cdre and some may even become AVMs but they can't reach to the level of CAS or even VCAS, that apex can be attained only through GD(P)
Hope I have answered your queries.
Regards.

Firstly, Yes you are right, I am a Doctor (BDS). But I am interested in Graduate Course of either GD Pilot (GDP) or Air Defense (AD), not as a Doctor. I love the profession of the Combat in Armed Forces, not as a helper like doctor, psychologist, logistics, IT, etc. 4 days ago I also went to apply for 132 PMA Long Course at local ASRC, but they told me that I am over age (My heart was broken at that time ). My age is 24 yrs sharp. So can I become a GDP or AD Officer even by Short Service Commission?

Secondly, kindly elaborate more about AD officers. I think they are also the active part of PAF as they take part in the combat along with GD Pilots. I want to ask that,

i) What is the training duration of AD Cadets (compared to GDP), and is it as tough and Physical as GDPs or PMA Long Course Cadets like handling of weapons, para trooping, assault courses, unarmed combat, etc or is it more mental than physical?

ii) Can these AD officers apply and be selected in ISI, Military Intelligence, other agencies as they are active part of Armed Forces (on Armed Forces Quota)? Or these opportunities are only for GDPs?

Thanks. I am very eager to join the Forces.

Previously graduate courses were available for GDP and AD branch through SSC but now they have become obselete for a few years. Therefore you can't apply for these branches through SSC and since you hold a BDS degree, you are not eligible for applying in other branches through SSC not even in Medical branch. For PC the upper age limit is 22 years so you can't even apply for that due to age factor.

Firstly AD officers do not directly take part in combats like the GDPs do. They only provide assistance to GDPs through radars and other equipment and that too by remainig on ground but yes they operate ground to air missiles. Every branch has its own importance and all are part and parcel for eachother.
The duration of training of AD cadets is 4 years at PAF Academy Risalpur leading to the award of BS in Aviation Sciences and Management from Air University Islamabad.
Yes there training is also tough but not as tough as that of PMA long course cadets. The AD cadets also go through various types of Physical training except for those related to flying.

Yes officers from any branch may be sent to intelligence agencies as decided by AHQ.
Regards.

My pleasure. It's sister not brother.
Don't lose heart, there is still chance for you. If you acquire a BA/Bsc/Msc/MBA/MPA/MA/M.Com/L.lb before you reach the age of 30 years, you can apply for various branches through SSC and SPSSC.
Regards.

Avoid netspeak. Kindly read forum rules and abide by them.

The induction in various branches through PC is usually announced at the same time through a single advertisement. It is likely to be announced in Sep/Oct. Keep checking the newspapers.
Regards.

According to a senior officer, a Gp Capt (can't name him here) the academy has become sort of owercrowded therefore they did not induct outsiders this time. Call any selection centre or talk to some representative for complete details. As I am not their representative, can't tell more than this.
Regards.
