I m agreed with lahoriyes. There is no optional in PCS \ PMS. PCS written exam has 5 compulsory subjects.

1. English
2. Urdu
3. Pakistan Studies
4. Islamiat
5. General knowledge ( which is objective )

Besides english and urdu include essay as well

I would like to add one more point that optional papers are added to the those exams that are for particular fields like if there is a post of lecturer they will ask for the test of optional subjects as well according to the nature of job.

Previously PCS sometime had optionals as well but now the pattern has totally changed and PMS dont have any condition of this type.

Hi,
i wish to know from the knowing persons which books should be studied for P.C.S urdu(compulsory).
The books must contain the required stuff that is , urdu poetry, idioms, grammer etc.
i would like to know from muskan whether the books u have recommended are sufficient for pcs urdu or not? please help.

I am w8ing for these posts with restlessness this time i definatly get in let me see how could this time PMS is not done by me ......May God helps me in this concern ...what i need is to know the best book of urdu ...i selected three optionals which are as follows:-

Economics
Statistic
political science

What u say guys is it good u can help me too in choosing the easy and more gaining number subjects pls........

any body tell me When PMS exam,2008 is going to be held? i just decided to appear in exam but i don't have any idea about subject selection.Please guide me which subjects are scoring and best for me. I ve done Masters in Economics n Economics and Statistics were my major subjects, so what do you say are they scoring subjects??

well dear bano i dont know which PMS you are talking about but so far i can understand it be PMS punjab.
I am preparaing for PMS NWFP, but since the syllabus is same and i also have the same subjects, i.e. economics and statistics. so what i would suggest is that. besides choosing these two (its also not compulsory), you go through the syllaubus and mark the subjects of your choices, then look into the syllabus and papers of the last five or so years. you may not be able to grasp a clear idea at the start but will have some idea about difficulty level.
then decide about the subjects. one of my senior told me that sujects with 200 marks and language are good than subjects of 100 marks, well it all depends on candidate aptitute and atitude, my optionals are , economics, statistics, IR, sociology and journalism.
