Salam,
Important Subjects are English and General Knowledge in which most students cannot succeed.

For English these book are useful.

a- Oxford English Idioms and Phrasal words.
b- For pair of words you won't need any such book, just make a list of all the words from past papers and then consult the dictionary. If you dont have past papers plz visit the past papers section of the forum, there you'll find english precis papers of CSS from 1971 onwards, it'll give you a long list of pair of words.
c- For correct and incorrect and DO as directed ( probably tenses & active/passive etc) just look at the rules and exercises of "Wren & Martin".
d- For use of preposition you can get some help from the book i mentioned earlier. Secondly see the precis & COmposition section of the forum.
e- Regarding precis you can participate in the forum's precis practice. It really works a lot.
f- Another useful book is EXPLORING THE WORLD OF ENGLISH

I was recomended by sum one these two books of Urdu

1. "URDU ADAB KI MUKHTASIR TAREEN TAREEKH" BY "DR. SALEEM AKHTAR"
2."URDU ADAB" BY "AMJAD SHAKIR".

My question is that wether these books are equally helpful in PMS as in CSS?

1 ) Urdu General by Mehar Hayat Sial ( published by ILMI )
2 ) Ilmi Urdu Mazameen by Ilmi Publishers.
3 ) Urdu Grammar by Munsaf Khan Sajab
4 ) Urdu Grammar of 9th & 10th inhapardazis
5 ) Complete courses of Urdu in FA & BA .

There is compulsory paper of 200 marks in FA.There are two papers of
Urdu in BA , one of 200 marks and one of 100 marks.Go through the
course of these papers in detail because basic level is of BA.Many
contents of the paper of PMS 2005 were from the course of FA & BA.

6 ) Moslty verses for explanation stems three poerts ( Ghalib , Iqbal ,Mir )
There are papers in the course of MA Urdu which cover these in full.
To books are recomended in this regard :--

a) Special Study of MIR and Ghalib.
b) Special Study of Iqbal.

Some Suggestions :---

1 ) Writing practice is very important.This is the area in which we lack generally. We try to develop our expression in English but neglet Urdu and consider it a home language. So practice it on daily basis.
2 ) There are many words which are used in Urdu.These words are of English language but we consider these as the words of Urdu.Try to avoid these words as much as possible to create orignality in the floew of language.Use of these words irritate the examiner because we attempyt the paper of Urdu language purely.
3 ) Maintain a bunch ( 40 to 50 ) of multidimaesional verses of different poets.Quote these verses in the essay and explanation of verses question .It will help a great deal securing good marks.Be careful usuing these because irrelevant verses will irritate the examiner and on e or two examples of these will create bad impression on over all performance.
4 ) Daily select an editorial from Dawn. First translate this in Urdu.It will help solve the question of translation from English to Urdu.After it make a precis of translated text .It will help solving talkhees question.Questions for English to Urdu and Talkhees are ususly taken from these editorials.

for objectives type
only u memorize the authors names and books which r well known
like "raja gidh,udhaas naslain,aag ka darya,sare-wadee-sinaa,hayat-e-javed et.c" and "bano qudsia,intizaar hussain,manto,faiz,mir,abduallah hussain e.t.c"
and for shers u know the meaning of diff.word e.g "khaar-e-gullo,taaq-e-nisyaan,nikhat-e-gul,gahancha e.t.c" if u have time read deewan-e-ghalib,
aatish,josh,hali,faiz,parveen shakir,zafar ali khan,qasmi et.c


pak studies:

read tahreekh-pakistan by sheikh rafique.
struggle for pakistan by ishtiaq hussain qureshi.

islamiyat:
1)read a book on "islam and other religions.it will prepare one question carry 20 marks and atleast 5
objectives.
2)islami nazriya hayat by prof.khurssid ahmed.
3)listen "dr.tahir-ul-qadri,dr.israr ahmed ,dr.zakir naik if u have cable
or purchase thier cds if u can"//

2) Practical English Usage (by Swan) Oxford

Sohail Bhatti is another good option for preparing Pakistan Studies.
For PMS you have to make yourself prepare more for post-independence issues so you have to consult, Ikram Rabbani, and Ilmi guide for Pakistan Studies.

Pak-Studies = Pak Affairs book by Imtiaz Shaihd
Geenral Knowledge = Newspapers plus General Knowledge by Caravan
Islamiat = I attempted that in English, the book was Islam A Fragrant Deen
