Strategy for History
Please share history paper and share your strategy for history paper . I m confused in opting history . I thought it demands vast reading . I m really thankful if you help me .you are the first person who prepared history paper in this forum i could not find any other.
I cannot post links, please go to PMS Past Papers on the Forum. For history paper always look for two things 1. Academic Background in some sort of History 2. if not then at least one should have sufficient time at hand because, you are right, it does consume a lot of time Best case scenario: Background in history and sufficient time at hand Worst case scenario: No Background in history and cramped for time When I opted for history, I had in mind that PMS 2015 exam would be held in April-May 2016. And I would prepare for Urdu, GK and History after CSS exam 2016 and would have revised Business Ad, Psychology, etc in process. As a lot of others would have been surprised that notification for exams came in mid december to be conducted in last week of december, I resorted to crises management techniques by making best of the time available. I had previously read in a thread, some gentleman informed about the Paper 1 syllabus, which he rightly thought was taken from a single book. I found that book one day before the exam in Quaid-e-azam library and skimmed it. (He rightly pointed out that such sort of history is not taught in Pakistani Universities and the paper was not according to the syllabus either). I came home, one by one picked the topics from the syllabus, wiki them and read atleast 500-1000 words on each very quickly i.e. french revolution, intellectual movements etc. Early in morning on exam day, I 1122 a friend in Sindh who had brilliant score in Indo-Pak history in css, for two hours he told me motay motay points on Mughals, 1857 and British in India. I played to my strength when I opted history. I had Islamic History in CSS (irrelevant though). I had an excellent IR knowledge which gave me good insight into last two century's affairs at least. I had studied Pakistan Movement previously for CSS (excluded in new syllabus though not from exams). I had interest in Philosophy and Political science so a lot of things were not alien to me. I believe, i have excellent grip on current affairs that helped me connect historical events to contemporary challenges and solutions. Questions I attempted in Paper 1: 1. Rise of China (IR) (Pak Affairs) (Current Affairs) 2. America Pak Relations (Book: Foreign Policy 1947- 2012 by Abdul Sattar had a detailed account of it that I had read) (Pak Aff) (Current Affairs) (IR) 3. Imperialism and Capitalism (IR) 4. England lost WW2 - (IR) Decolonization 5. French Revolution (I had read it from Wikipedia) Questions not attmepted: Monroe Doctrine (IR) Questions Attempted in Paper 2: 1. Growth of Democracy in pak (Pak Affairs) 2. Bhuttos Nationalization (Pak Affairs) 3. Failure of 1857 (1122 from Sindh) 4. Objectives Resolution (Pak Affairs) 5. Caste System in Hindu Society (1122 from Sindh) Questions that i did not attempt: Ayub's Basic Democracy (Pak Affairs) Circumstances of Gen. Zia's Martial Law (Pak Affairs) Hope it helps :bow |
