I think he asked me about transistor, ic etc because of my bachelors in electrical engineering. He also asked questions from geography which was my optional subject. Lastly, he asked questions related to my work experience.

Default Interview Experience Dated 04-April-2017

I arrived at PPSC office before 8 am. We were given passes to enter the premises and afterwards our documents were scrutinised. My name was at the sixth serial number. I was interviewed at 115 am approximately. Here I have delineated a brief version of my experience.

After seeking permission to enter the room, I sat on a chair in front of the Chairman.

Chairman : How are you Gentleman?

Me: I am fine. Thank you, Sir.

Chairman : Introduce yourself!

I gave a brief introduction mentioning my profile, family background, achievements, extra-curricular activities, motivation for Civil Services etc..

Chairman : Why do you think that you are a suitable candidate for Civil Services?

Me : I have a sound academic background. I think that I have all the qualities of being humane, competent, dutiful and public deliverance that a Civil Servant should have.

Chairman :Why did you choose Engineering in the first place?

Me : Sir, I had a particular inclination towards Maths and Physics. Hence, I chose these subjects to complete my bachelors. I have also chosen Physics as an optional in PMS-16 and CE-17. But I want to pursue my career in Civil Services. Because Engineering has a limited scope whereas in Civil Services one can serve in multifarious capacities.

Chairman then made a gesture towards his left. I guess that person from the panel was from S&GAD.

1st Panel Member : So you have Physics, Social Work and Mass communication as your optionals.

I answered in affirmation.

1st Panel Member : What is Information Commission?

I apologised that I do not remember its exact working. I asked if I were to give my opinion. He said that it was ok and moved on to another question.

1st Panel Member : Who is your favourite Journalist/Column writer etc?

Me : Munir Akram and Mehdi Hassan.

1st Panel Member then asked me about another journalist. I cannot recall the name. I answered that I do not know about him.

1st Panel Member afterwards asked about Press note and Press release. I answered satisfactorily.

1st Panel Member : Do you read books?

Me : Yes, Sir.

1st Panel Member : Which books have you read?

Me : Sir, I have completed Khushwant Singh's "Train to Pakistan" yesterday. I described its plot briefly.

1st Panel Member : Have you read about Allama Iqbal?

Me : No, Sir. Not beside my curriculum.

He asked one or two more questions, I can't recall that.

He then forwarded me to Mr. Seerat Asghar.

Mr. Seerat Asghar : So, you have opted Physics. Einstein was given Nobel Prize. Can you tell for what work exactly. I answered but he said that beta what if I tell you that he was given Nobel in some other work.

Me : I beg your pardon, Sir. I cannot seem to remember that.

Mr. Seerat Asghar : It's OK beta. Not a problem. You have told that you have read about Khushwant Singh. Have you read his any other book?

Me: Sir, I am quite impressed by his style of expression. I am planning to read his other book but I am forgetting its name. ('Delhi' was the book I could not remember)

Mr. Seerat Asghar : (He was quite enthusiastic and smiling all the time) You must read his other books. He is a prolific writer.

Me : Definitely, Sir.

Mr. Seerat Asghar :Have you read any other books?

Me : Yes Sir. I have read Lesley Hazleton's "The First Muslim" and "After the Prophet".

Mr. Seerat Asghar seemed quite impressed. I carried on that although I like her expression a lot but certain segments of society have criticised her a lot.

Mr. Seerat Asghar : What kind of criticism?

Me : Sir, certain historians believe that Miss Lesley have used taletelling more than writing pure history.

Mr. Seerat Asghar : What do you like about her? What do you like in her book especially The first Muslim.

Me : I explained effectively...

Mr. Seerat Asghar : then asked two to three more questions regarding Lesley Hazleton.

He then forwarded me to Mr. Mohsin Razi.

Mr. Mohsin Razi : He asked about economics, GDP, Export rate, two questions from Physics, Trade barriers etc..

then Mr. Mohsin Razi asked (with reference to the ongoing discussion about Lesley Hazleton's books) that what event occupied Hazrat Ali's (R.A) rule? He then asked about Khawarijis..

I answered effectively.

Mr Mohsin is the hardest one to convince with reference to foreign policy, economics and international trade. He consumed lesser time.

Afterwards Mr Chairman again directed questions. He asked about culture, media's functions, ways to induce Pakistaniyat in our youth, Nuclear weapons etc...

He, in the end, quoted a quotation..

"Wherever you go, you should go with your heart but you should not leave your brains behind."

I explained it in two lines.

Chairman said Thank you and that was the end of the interview.

Most of the questions have been asked from optionals but my interview consisted of approximately 8-10 mins discussion on my Book-Reading.

Overall the interview went smooth... It was of 25-35 mins.. Average time duration of interview is 20 mins approx.
