Salam to all members. I hope every one is undergoing hectic study. Recently i was discussing PMS exam with some friends. During the conversation , many question were raised , some of which would be interesting to other members also.

1. Is there difference in scoring if islamiat/pak studies are attempted in urdu in stead of english?
2. In answering questions in islamiat/pak studies, how much should b written in answer to a question (how many pages should b written,approximately? Some say 8-9 pages will do. Is it true?)
3. In english & urdu assay writing , how much material should b written (i-e how many pages should b written? Again some r of the view that around 30 pages will do?) Off course quality is of paramount importance. But what about quantity? I mean how many pages if u write in average size alphabets?
4. It was somewhere mentioned in this forum that in CSS exam , they give blank pages to write (blank meaning without lines) . Is it true for PMS exam also? Again some friend who passed erstwhile PCS exam tells that they were given pages that had lines . Was this the case in PMS 2005 also? Also, can any one tell what r appraximate number of lines in a single page?
5.Are candidates required to write on one side of pade r on both sides?

well dear its not the matter of the length ov the answer but the material shud b authentic n shud not hav a lot ov mistakes.
Then there z no difference in attempting in urdu or in english but u must b well prepared in any in which u would like to appear.
I think we shud b able to manage the length ov the essay according to marks at this stage n there is no matter ov lines on a paper.
Dear u shud have to take these examination as a standard one.

Hi. I can tell at least about first 2 verses of urdy pms 2005. They r of allama Iqbal.

For tashree of ashaar the books available in market like Cravans, Dogars, or Juhangeer guides are only helpful in this sense that atleast they give you a collection of famous verses.But their tashree is not up to standerd.
So, it is not good to rely on any particular book for tashree.Its good to practise tashree of some verses yourself.
Practice some verses of Iqbal, Meer, Ghalib & Faiz. Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi will be in paper of 2006 so, do not ignore him as well.

First of all dont start tashree with such sentece....

*Poet says in this verse this & that.....
instead of it use this that, eis shair mai yai haqqeqat ,,,,means focus on shair instead of poet...better to start tashree with shair's theme.

*Focus on key words of shair, & its main theme, do not go far from shair during tashree.

*Every shair has 2,3 meaning conceal in it, do not focus only 1 side & try to show all sides.

*if there is used Tshbee, Eistaara like things..do not forget to mention these.

*Keep in mind that a shair have 5 marks, so do not make your tashree too lengthy.

*Quote 1 or 2 relevent "shair", in tashree...if any English quote come in mind (relevent) quote it as well...

best one amongst all.
as muskan said that normally iqbal,faiz,ghalib,mir,majeed amjad,kasmi

Asslam u allikum, I m new member here and preparing for PMS. I m really finding it hard to finish essay with an hour... because the paper is of 2 hrs, and a student has to make a precise and translation during that hour.... precise and translation require an hour.... so what should be the length of essay? Sometime it happen that topic is highly demanding e.g if you r going to write about "Failure of Political system of Pakistan"... or "Good governance" you cant restrict yourself to an hour because the topic demands for detailed analysis.
Now I m requesting to senior members to guide us how to be brief in such situation.
One more thing if anybody of you have some material about Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi as "Afsana Nigar" and his work..... I would like to have it..... I hope for the cooperation.

Welcome to the forum...Yes you are right that in 2 hours it is difficult to finish preci, Essay & translation. So, it needs more & more writing practice, moreover you should keep in mind that Essay will be of 40 marks only not of 100 marks like Css essay paper, so length should not be too long. Besides try to save sometime from Precise & translation, try to finish them within 45 minutes.

Anyhow best luck for the exams & let hope we will finish the essay of desired length in time.

Hi , salam to everybody. I want to point out that this year , there will b single paper of English including Essay , lasting three hours. I request senior members to plz guide us how to solve this paper in 3 hours time. Same is the case about urdu. It will b a single paper of Urdu including Essay , Lasting 3 hours. Agaain how to solve it.

Plz also guide about books 4 subjective part of islamiat and pak studies

In Urdu & English paper,

3 hours time should be managed like this that all objective type questions should be solved in first 50 minutes. next 55 min will be enough for translation & precise. Not more than 70 minutes should be given to essay. Last 5 min for revision(but i think a person will be lucky to have these 5 min).

Anyhow its difficult indeed to handle 150 marks paper in only 3 hours....but Inshallah God will give us ability to do this. More & more writing practice is needed.
