What is total numbers of sentences in a language called?

There was a question about which poet gain popularity after being fifty? Ans?

Don't knw the ans of first one.n I think the second one was Milton because he gained popularity for his paradise lost which was published in 1667 while his date of birth was 1608 so according to my calculation it was Milton
