RECRUITMENT TO THE POSTS OF
PROVINCIAL MANAGEMENT SERVICE, ETC. – 2016

Subject: Sociology (Paper-I)

Time Allowed: Three Hours
Maximum Marks: 100



Note : Attempt FIVE Questions in all. Attempt in Urdu or English.

Q No 1 : What is meant by sociological perspective ? Also explain important propositions of structuralism and post modernism perspectives. (20 Marks )

Q No 2 : It is assumed that gender-based-violence against women is embedded in social structure of Pakistani society . If you agree, explain how and why ? If not , explain why not . (20 Marks )

Q No 3 : Please define the term "mental illness". It is believed that mental illness is strongly influenced by socio-psychological factors. Explain in detail with reference to Pakistani society. (20 Marks )

Q No 4 : Please define the terms " formal education" and "informal education". Explain latent and manifest functions of non-formal education in Pakistan. (20 Marks )

Q No 5 : What are the functions of schooling ? Why have our government school failed to perform their functions ? Explain. (20 Marks )

Q No 6 : In sociology, how Emile Durkheim defined the term " religion"? Also highlight major theories of religion in sociology . (20 Marks )

Q No 7 : As a consequence of Soviet attack on Afghanistan , a big influx of Afghan people migrated to Pakistan. This migration of Afghan people has deep impacts (Positive and negative ) on socioeconomic fabric of Pakistani society. Explain in detail.(20 Marks )

Q No 8 : Please write short notes on any TWO of the following :- (10+10 Marks )
a) Demographic Transition Theory
b). Types of Social Movements
c). Marist View of Mass Culture
d). Zeitheist
