Education is a broad field, there are various subjects in education like Educational Psychology, Curriculum Development & Instruction, Educational Measurement & Evaluation, Educational Management & Supervision, Classroom Organization and Management, Research Methods in Education etc etc etc. A single book cannot cover all subjects of Education. Whereas, for the preparation of written tests and interviews in Education, I would recommend you

1. Teachers Guide of Jahangir Success Series
2. Education by Prof. Qasim Jalal (Advanced Publishers)

You are welcome. If you wish to prepare all subjects separately then mention the subjects, I shall let you know good books for those subjects. Some good books are enlisted here

1. Advanced Educational Psychology by KUPPUSWAMY
2. Developing Research in Teacher Education by Ian Menter
3. Educational Thought & Practice by Taneja
4. Improving Teacher Quality by Henning
5. New Approaches to Measurement & Evaluation by KS Sidhu
6. Popular Culture & Critical Pedagogy by Toby Daspit
7. School Administration & Management by KOCHHAR
8. Teacher Education in Turmoil by RP Singh

Yes these books have been written by foreign writers and are available mainly in libraries. I have never gone through AIOU's books. But I heard that AIOU's books are good.

Default Education by Mian Shaukat Ali

One book which i found to be an excellent resource on the subject is Competitive Education by Mian Shaukat Ali (Gold-Medalist) M.A Education, Diploma in Special Education, Associate Professor University College of Education Lahore. This book covers the complete syllabus on the subject and is very easy to grasp.
