Science and Relegion:
science and relegion are the two most important aspects of our lives. Both have influenced human life to a great extent.they are considered to be opposite to each other. The difference lies between the methods of forming ideas and believes.Relegion demand uncondional allegiance of what is told and restrict questioning certian things.Science on the other hand negate those things which are intangible.
Relegion has been defined in the Encyclopedia of Britanica as"Relegion is believe in supernatural Beings". Kaut defines relegion as " Recognition of our duties as devine command".Mathew Arnold defines relegion as "Morality touched with emotions".It gives certian codes of contact to its followers to which they must conform to their lives. It demands total obediance from its followers and also tries to give him certian answers relating to world its begining and origin of life. It also tries to give a purpose to an otherwise aimless life of Man.It draws certian lines beyond which man must not go and Try to tackle with the spiritual needs of him.It tries ot urge man towards what is right while shunning all which it considered wrong. It helps man to understand his relative position in this vast universe.
Science on the other hand totally negate things that it cannot understand. It is defined as knowledge or learning of observable phenomenon " the search of man for collecting knowledge and integrating it is called sciennce.Science is the knowledge with the help of which man gets infomation about himself and his enironment.Man has been investigating his environment since the begining of his creation and has succeeded in collecting a lot of information about nature He has tried to unearth the hidden secrets of Nature.Despite so much development it fails to go beyond certian things and giving reasons for this.
Both science and relegion has immensely influence the human lives. The question arise whether these two contradict or reinforce each other. For the basic purpose of both is to provide benefits to humanity.
Historically science and relegion had not gone through well with each other. That sounds more true in case of west or Europe.here relegion had always been a hindrance in clear thinking .For centuries both relegion and science were indulged in a contest against each other. As the societies of that time were dominated by the ecclesiastical forces.Relegion being the most important part of their lives was considered to have the supreme authority .Each new scientific development was opposed by these forces and was also liable to punishment. The history is replete with such exampls where thoghts were blocked by dogmatic views.Gallelio's famous discovery about the earth revolving round sun was considered a blesphemy as according to relegious scriptures earth was the center of universe with everything else revolving round it.Gallelio had to pay the price of his knowledge by life imprisonment.Scientific inventions and discories were opposed as allegedly bein an interference in the divine affairs.Lightening Rod was considered as interference in Gods command as lightening was considered an instrument of God to punish human beings.Anaesthesia was criticized as women were cursed to bear childhood pangs in christanity.
So in this way relegion was to a great extent restricting clear thinking leading to knowledge and was a biggest opponent of scientific development and science had a tough way to go ahead. But as the man cannot be stupified with certian beliefs and his curious nature is always there to find out the truth, relegious forces with all their might could not stop science on their way towards truth.Till a time when the relegious forces began losing its powers and with the passage of time more and more stress was given on reasoning and knowledge.Relegion was then considered to be a private affair of people which should not interfere matters beyond that. Now a days countries are totally secular with relegion restricted to churches or personal affairs. In this case it was imperative to overlap relegion as it was hindering thier progress and development.
But the case is not the same in other historical examples.Relegion has been a reinforcing for science and knowledge where muslims are concerned. Here muslims have a history quiet opposite to the west.Islam is the only relegion which give too much importance to knowledge. It ,as a relegion, orders its followers to look around themselves and try to find out the hidden truths that are scattered around them.Islam makes man the most superior creature and assigned him the title of "deputy of God" on earth. There are clear cut instructions in Quran to study the mystery of the universe. We find in the Quran for more than seven hundred times,Allah's behest to investigate the phinomena of nature.infact Islam has urged muslims to pay attention to the study of natural phenomena and the physical and biological principles and inerpret them as Allah's manifestationsMuslim scholars were pioneers in different fields of science be it chemistry, phisics, maths, medicine astrology and many more. There are numerous names like Abu Ali Sina,Jabar Bin Haiyan Alrazi and the lists is long. The period of scientific development of musltims extends upto sixteenth century. It was when the muslim rulers stopped patronizing knowledge and indulge themselves in other frivolous activities that their decline strarted and thier heritage of knowledge was transfered to the west.so their is a clear differenec between the way these two civilizations develop. The one frees itslef from the cage of relegion for advancement and the other met with decline and degradation by distancing itself from its relegious obligations.
Here we see that the oppositon is not between the relegion and science but between dogmatic views and clear thinking.the difference lies between the two different percpectives.one percpective is giving ready made views and restrict thinking wherese other urge man to find the truth by using reason and wisdom.
If science is considered as a sole source of human development then wht place the relegion has in it.The fact is that these two sides complement each other rather than opposin if considered so.Science contribute human develpment by its discoveries and inventions and relegion helps human beings in understanding thier duties and rights.Relegion Without science leaves human beings in the deluge of ignorance and darkness.Man would have still been living in caves. And without relegion science fails to cater with certian emotionl needs of man without the moral ideas given by relegion science is somewhat a threat to humanity.Devoid of moral the latest developments of Nuclear and biological weapons endangered the very exixtence of human beings and other creatures on this planet.Inshort sciene tells how can we achieve certian things ,what is important how certian things can be done but relegion draws the lines beyond which we should not go.It provide the whole package of do's and don's.In this way relegion need science for its benificial effacts on humanity and science need relegion for its encompassing moral ideas.so both should reinforce each other rather than contradicting each other.
Science and Relegion both if misused can cause danger which have really happened.both are at the same time capable of doing wrong to humanity. With the latest develpment of sciece has enabled itself to cause the constant threat ot not only the human exixtence but the all other creatures on this earth. The more develped human being has more sophisticated weapons or tools to harm humanity.Relegion on the other side has been responisble for inculcatin bias and fanatic ideas in man.It may not, in the real sense be the real reason or may be its misconception but it has develped the fanatic attitude in some of its followers.Such attitudes has also been the cause of much of life lose in the framework of terrorism. It is these dogmatic views has caused the clash of civilizations which is the real danger ahead of humanity.
What we need today is a very clear percpective of both these fields. The way to progress is through carrying these two powers side by side giving each its deserved place. Both are capable of benefitting humanity and its up to man himself how he extract maximum benifits from both.West thinks science a private affair because their relegion has failed to go side by side along the ways to progress but the case is not the same with Islam.Islam is fully capable of being applicable in all ages .so we need not to put it aside infact it will surely help us in these new ways of develpment and progress. These two forces should go side by side for the search of truth and knowledge for man has still a long way to go>

@ Nosheen

It is good and informative as an essay. Your fluency and style is also fine but it is small if we consider it a proper essay and it is very long if we consider it an expansion or short essay.

Regards
