Result was that i could not prepare much and appeared in the examination with an unknown topic of essay that was: Women Sportspersons are the new ambassadors to the soft image of Pakistan: I wrote on the topic by making a random outline on the back of paper and then i composed a simple essay in paragraphs. Though i was much confused but did well. Later on people made me confuse that you selected a random topic, u wont be able to get through it and you did not know about women sportspersons. How could you get through it? But i got 45 marks in it without having an idea about sports or anything related to this topic. In short, one must have a written practice of essay, data collection or rocket science material does not matter as i hd chosed a difficult topic but passed it even without having an idea about role of women as sportspersons or as ambassadors in this regard.

I'd second @fannybron
If you have opted IR, and you read the international news section of newspaper, you already have enough material to pass atleast one essay. Then there are generic essays on a hot topic from previous years. One essay is based on literature /philosophy.
And only luck would bring you to a situation where an essay tou have prepared would make it to the question paper, but that is a rarity.
What you have to safeguard yourself is to:
1. Familiarise yourself with the technique of essay writing. It can be easily sone by taking an online free course on essay writing. Tou can begin with coursera or edx
2. Practice. Practice as much as you can. When I was out of ideas ro write about, I wrote about the thesis of any op-ed article and jotted down all that came to my mind in a structured manner and then read it after a week or so. It enabled me to spot my mistakes and helped me avoid the same in future.
Hope it helps you to begin with essay writing, and setting aside the fears.
