As uploading topics fully to get some views is herculean task on CSS forums & I remain busy to a nth degree with my books. So,I won't get much time for that. But as its fact that critical analysis of any topic is miniature which get your critical abilities judged in a trice.Hence,in order to do that & get some views about my way of assessing topics. I have uploaded a critical analysis of my P.A topic.Your appreciation & pummeling is welcome. Topic5.
Critical analysis of Lucknow Pact:-
The "Lucknow Pact"of 1916 is a glinting docket in Indian history caught in communal chaos & absolute perturbation. No doubt,it was a tremendous achievement by hindus & Muslims, where both the communities shown a pining for working in tandem to achieve their desired ends.Apart from this superficial view, the pact carried other different dimensions as well for both the communities.Firstly, for Hindus the acceptance of separate electorates by Congress was equivalent of breaking the country on Communal line, which too in a constitutional and agreed manner.Hindu looked at acceding separate electorates to Muslims as opening gates of Communal deluge in a heterogenous Indian nation. Also,Hindus viewed the whole pact from a narrow rather a pigeonholed prism of unjust appeasing of Muslim minority. As famous indian writes Bipin Chandra writes in his book " Indian struggle for Independence",
". . . The acceptance of the principle of separate electorates for Muslims was certainly most controversial decision. It can not be denied that pact was motivated by a sincere desire to allay minority fears about majority domination"
Also, another famous Indian writer Rajiv Ahir says the same,
". . . The controversial decision to accept the principle of separate electorates represented a serious desire on the part of Congress to allay the minority fears of majority domination."
However, the Muslims looked at positive dimension of Pact and unlike Hindus their approach was much apt.The Muslims called it a positive & successful development in Indian stride towards self-rule.As I.H qureshi writes,
" The Muslims won a unique victory when the Congress,of its own free will and without any reservations, accepted separate electorates and made them the pivot of scheme."
Overall it suggests that, the pact was a result of joint endeavours by Congress and League to put up a united front against British, this shows the farsightedness of the both the sides involved. Also, the acceptance of separate electorates by Congress was actually an indirect admission of fact that Muslims are a separate nation & a separate political entity with different political ideals and aspirations. This was indeed a remarkable step in evolution of Two-nation theory. Thus,it can be said that, though the pact offered different aspects to both the corrival communities, who too looked at it from different dimensions but at last they curled the mo in getting their cherished demand of self-rule by the British Government answered. As Government later introduced Montagu-Chelmsford Reforms in 1917,which was considered an answer to Indian pep up for self-rule. As Rajiv Ahir says,
" . . . there was a large enthusiasm generated among the people by this reunion.Even the government decided to placate the nationalists by declaring its intention to grant self-government to Indians in times to come,as contained in Montagu's August 1917 declaration."
