Speed reading is fun and all but I need to make steady gains in my vocabulary base as well. And that comes from memory; whacky, memorable memory.
This site is handy for providing illustrations for words searched. It's like a picture dictionary. Text only dictionaries just don't cut it, unless they've got a ton of sentences to elaborate and expand on the 'feel' of the word too. One such site I found is

Apart from soft skills, found a must read article for GS students and everyone in general. Couldn't resist sharing a mini-excerpt, a beautiful test and distinction, a testament to the writer's clarity, knowledge and alacrity of expression: Freedom has a certain Islamic responsibility whereas in the West freedom tends to degenerate into licentiousness, not in law but certainly in social and cultural practices.
