Mary Holmes' book
What is Gender? was a very interesting read for me as someone with no background in this field. It covered all the basics of this subject in a simple, engaging and organised manner. I highly recommend it if anyone has time. I'll provide a link to the pdf copy below. It doesn't cover much of the css syllabus but since Mary Holmes quoted different sociologists and experts from the field when making her points, I could reproduce and adapt those arguments where and when needed. The book is less than 200 pages long and covers the basic concept of "gender" along with how gender today has been politicized and commercialized. There is also a portion dedicated to the link between Gender and class and also Gender and race. I hope someone finds this useful.
