Art has been criticized for exciting human emotions and disturbing moral life. To Pluto, poetic imagination strengthens our animal nature and infectiousness of art is taken as excellence. But his theory is flawed. An aesthetic experience is different from theoretical logic. It involves powerful emotions but with changed meaning and nature. Serenity in poetry is not of recollection. The emotions aroused are immediate and have new orientations. Our emotions becomes transparent. Shakespeare stressed the point that a play holds the mirror up to nature and show image of human emotions. We are not infected by negative roles of character portrayed. Infact, we understand the nature and significance of these traits better. Shakespeare's theory of dramatic art corresponds to conception of fine arts.
