yes, one can always go for selective study. The formula is easy. Scroll through last 10 years papers and you will know which questions are important and which area's in particular are more important than the others.Make a list and start preparing. I'll give you an example.
If you go through last 10 years papers of Political Science you'll notice that questions regarding Plato have appeared 8 times. So 8/10, i think it's a safe bet to prepare Plato .
Disclaimer: Selective study is always risky, sometimes it pays off and some times it lands you in trouble and trouble is the last thing one wants in a competitive exam
