criminal negligence
''A person acts with 'criminal negligence' with respect to a result or to a circumstance described by a statute defining an offense when he fails to perceive a substantial and unjustifiable risk that such result will occur or that such circumstance exists. The risk must be of such nature and degree that the failure to perceive it constitutes a gross deviation from the standard of care that a reasonable person would observe in the situation.''
in medical profession,if a doctor knowingly let patient die or mistreat that leads to death then it is criminal negligence.
these cases are common not in Pakistan but all over the world. in USA one may lose license or has to pay huge amount.
media highlights these cases and exaggerate reality.
i worked in hospitals. in surgery emergency one comes at 6 am and has minimum of 12 hour duty and if doctors are less in number then may extend to 24 hours.usually a group of 8 doctor with 4-5 house officers and 3-4 medical officers control emergency and take care of at least 300-600 patients daily in 12 hour duty.one gets so tired, you can hardly imagine.sometimes one even does not have time for snacks.
in such a hectic job,one has to be very careful as one has to diagnose, treat, counsel and decide for operation or any other step.
it is also very difficult to obtain true history from patients and one has to be sharp to judge history.so such duties and heavy job lead to errors and mistakes.then para-medical staff also do mistakes but they hide it comfortably because you never know what they have done.
doctors don't know what is condition of patient. mostly terminal ill patients come to emergency and you have hardly any time to save them.
salaries is an issue but it does not come forward for saving any life.
relatives have sentiments and they want their patient to survive but when patient dies ,they blame doctors.
doctors are only human beings ,they can save lives only which could be saved.
"jub kis ki maut aati he to ankhon per patti dal di jati he"
as far as irresponsible or less knowledge of doctors is concerned, such doctors are not allowed to treat serious patients.
many other reasons are also involved
for example if in lahore one has a head injury only hospital for treatment is general hospital. but general hospital does not have ct-scan machine(last time i know it was out of order).so one has to get ct-scan or MRI of brain from one place and then go to general hospital which itself has heavy emergency full of such patients.so what can doctor do in such situation?
similarly in disaster we have to save only those patients and treat those which can be saved. patients are categorized and treated accordingly.

everyone wants to save his/her patient. death is a harsh reality.sentiments are high. doctors cannot give life to anyone if HE the LORD,the ALMIGHTY does not want to.
