Default Senate body for implementing age criteria

THE NEWS:12-06-2010

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat Shahid Bugti has stressed the need for putting in place age relaxation criteria in appointments for the government service without any discrimination and to re-advertise the posts mentioning relaxation in age as per the new rule.

Talking to the media after a meeting of the committee, Senator Bugti said sometime back, the prime minister and the chief ministers were the authorities to give relaxation in age, but it had been decided that the age for joining the government service should be enhanced from 25 to 30 years and from 28 to 33 years.

He said the committee had directed the authorities concerned to re-advertise the posts which were advertised earlier, mentioning the increase in age limit for the government service. The committee also took up the issue of hiring retired section officers and deputy secretaries.

The meeting was told that a ban on these posts remained effective from 1980-87 and from 1998-2007 due to which there was a shortage of these officers. The committee asked the departments concerned to fill the gap by selecting candidates through the Federal Public Service Commission and promotion to the working staff.
