Well, the ethencity is the oldest division in human society but after the arrival of different religions, the role of ethencity becomes weaker. Still, in todays world the anthropologists divide the world population on the basis of ethencity as it provides the basic knowledge of human race.
Ethenicity plays important role in world as well as regional politics as people of same ethenic group likes to vote for their group and if seperated from the group physically, they consider themselves part of that group psychology.
In pakistan, the main ethenic groups are Punjabi, Sindhi, Baluchi, Pathan. Beside these, there are several other groups like UP (urdu speaking), makrani, Hazarawal, Kashmeri, Shina, Balti and many more smaller ones.
Although, the ethenic feelings are getting weaker day be day due to globalization, still some leaders use these feelings for their vested interest and get seats in assembly. The best example is Karachi, where several ethenic groups are in conflict for getting the bigger share of cake on the basis of their ethenicity. It is the same karachi, where all these groups were living peacefully in past but since the arrival of ethenic politics, the city is divided into ethenic zones.
