Yes a man and woman, a boy and girl can be friends. Some relations do not stop us to make friendship with opposite sex. Father/daughter, Mother/Son, Brother/Sister etc.

My younger son & only daughter are friends besides they are brother sister. They share their life matters like friends. This is friendship. My daughter did not like much her elder brother besides they are also brother sister. This is relationship.
