Launching Ceremony of 2nd P.M.S Training Course at Governor House

It was one of the very unforgettable news of my life when I came to know about my induction in provincial civil service of than province of North West Frontier Province which is now Khyber Pakhtunkhawa. I was declared successful by Public Service Commission NWFP, on certain grounds, which was really unbelievable of me. I was sitting in my office in Dubai when I read the email of my younger brother who was studying in Peshawar informed me about the result published in a local newspaper. It was a happier moment of my life. It will be interesting to mention that I travel thrice for exam, interview and medical test. My fourth journey from Dubai to Peshawar was for the arrival reporting to the establishment division.
It was a cloudy morning in the Peshawar when I landed at Peshawar airport. Every time in last two years when I travel for Pakistan, I landed in Peshawar. I cannot phrase out my feelings every time when I touched the Pak land and every time I prayed Allah to grant me the chance of serving my own nation and homeland. Fortunately I get selected and was asked to join the service in month of May this year. A warm welcome by my friends in Peshawar was a matter of great pleasure for me. When I reached IM Sciences Hayatabad, Peshawara, a smart guy welcomed me, noted down my information and guided me the seminar hall. It was Sunday. Introduction, filling up forms, group formation and finally a welcome address by the Director was the work done of the day. During his speech we were told that formal launching ceremony of the course will be held tomorrow at Governor House. It was the first chance for many of us to see the ‘Pentagon’ of K.P.K. After passing through tight security measures we were in Jirga Hall of Governor House where ceremony was due to commenced on arrival of Governor K.P.K.
Mr. Owais Ahmad Ghani who is an engineer by profession and one of the very close confidant of Ex president Pervez Musharaf, entered the Jirga Hall right in time and welcomed by the participants. Rest all was the routine but the speech made by Mr. Governor was quite surprising for most of us. He spoke very well and very openly. He discussed the pre and post 9/11 periods in detail. He talked about the Taliban insurgency in Tribal areas and Sawat. He exclusively mark the expectations from newly inducted officers in civil service of the province which is in global limelight for the last many decades and will have the more or less same importance in forthcoming period as well.

The most surprising moment of his speech was, when he said ‘Militants were all set to erase our rule from this province at least, if they didn’t have make some fatal mistakes. If Taliban have not harassed the common people by suicide bombing on public place and attacks on innocent people, situation would have been worst as compared to what we faced. It was our good luck and their irreversible error which provided us the opportunity of kicking them out with full force.’ He further said ‘our civil bureaucracy must learn the lesson and put her efforts in resolving the problems of a common man. If our attitude remain the same, may be next time we would not be able to counter any uprising against the civil rule.’

These words by the top most official of the province were really alarming. Our training program formally commenced in a lot of applause, shields were interchanged, tea along with fish samosa was taken but I am wondering how many of us noticed the severe consequences of irrational attitude of our policy makers towards a common man which resulted in some real threats faced by our land.
