Everyone here and there is only speculating whether Osama was killed now or 8 years before, but no one really knows.. What is confirmed is that they had information of Osama's whereabouts for some time, 1 years or so, as per their own statements. Whether Osama was killed 8 years ago or yesterday, the questions remains "why now and why that way". What I feel about it is the Americans wanted to keep a military presence in Central Asia for a long time, like in Central Europe, but their plans were frequently hampered by dubious role of Pakistani intelligence agencies and public opinion (as they deem it). Due to that, they had to announce plans for a withdrawal from Afghanistan much sooner than they intended. Before withdrawing from Afghanistan, incensed Americans desired to leave a mar on Pakistan which can be used as a pretext to hard press Pakistanis in future. Therefore I feel that situation for Pakistan will again be like Soviet era. A "third war with Pakistan" is highly unlikely, because Americans as a nation are dealing with some challanges of their own economy which take priority over other matters. How we as a nation are going to deal with future hardships is up to us
