ADOPTING UNCHECKED WESTERN LIFESTYLE.


One of the drawbacks of globalisation is cultural invasion which is manifested in our society as well. Our young generation is blindly emulating western lifestyle despite the differences between the two cultures. This trend, however, does not bode well for our society, our culture and our civilization.

The adoption of western culture is thoroughly visible in our society. Even the most conservative rural communities have welcomed such trends. From the western garments like CalvinKlein to western restaurants like KFC are gaining ground in our society. On the other hand our traditional wears and recipes are losing their salt among our youth. It is in no way beneficial for our cultural identity.

Besides, it is detrimental for us to adopt western lifestyle without any checks since our social norms, values, beliefs and practices stand poles apart. For example, living together of a man and a woman before marriage is common in west. Drug addiction is in vogue among western youngsters. When they reach adulthood, they do not hesitate to leave their parents and when their parents reach an old age, they are shifted to special houses for aged people. These trends are, by and large, abhored in our society.

In order to get self-satisfaction in false pride, our youths are rapidly losing their identity. They have engaged themselves in practices once alien to our culture. Therefore, it is time that awareness among our generation was produced and our own culture was revived before its complete annihilation.
