The gold has been center of attraction for the European settlers. They in North America rushed toward West when Gold reserves were discovered in California. They settled in the Cape colonies( South Africa) for gold extraction. Australia till the end of the 19th century was only populated in the New South Wales areas. They rushed toward Western Australia when gold was discovered there. So watch out, there may be bloody Americans and Europeans rushing to get the gold from Afghanistan.
