Study the history of Arabic Literature, Origin of Arabic language, its subsequent development in Dor-e-jahlia, Islam and till modern time. Language of Quran and its influence on Arabic language and other literary models. (The beginning chapters). Afterwards, go through the development of arabic literature in other areas like spain, syria, egypt and different generes of arabic literature. Study Characteristics of Iraqi, undlus poetry along with arabic literature in subcontinent. Study important personalities included in syllabus like khalil bin ahmad, al jahaz etc.
I would recommend to thoroughly go through (excluding the out of syllabus content) the book atleast once to gain maximum benefit. Having done that, you may focus on suggested areas. Do consult past papers to get idea of most important and repeated topics.
