Anas ibn Malik () reported: A man of the Ansar came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and begged from him. He (ﷺ) asked: “Have you nothing in your house?” He replied: “Yes, a piece of cloth, a part of which we wear and a part of which we spread (on the ground), and a wooden bowl from which we drink water.” He (ﷺ) said: “Bring them to me.” He then brought these articles to him and he (ﷺ) took them in his hands and asked: “Who will buy these?” A man said: “I will buy them for one dirham.” He said twice or thrice: “Who will offer more than one dirham?” A man said: “I will buy them for two dirhams.” He gave these to him and took the two dirhams and, giving them to the Ansari, he said: “Buy food with one of them and hand it to your family, and buy an axe and bring it to me.” He then brought it to him. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) fixed a handle on it with his own hands and said: “Go, gather firewood and sell it, and do not let me see you for a fortnight.” The man went away and gathered firewood and sold it. When he had earned ten dirhams, he came to him and bought a garment with some of them and food with the others. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) then said: “This is better for you than that begging should come as a spot on your face on the Day of Judgment. Begging is right only for three people: one who is in grinding poverty, one who is seriously in debt, or one who is responsible for compensation and finds it difficult to pay.”

Abu Huraira () reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Do not envy, and do not outbid each other,[i] and do not hate, and do not turn away, and do not outsell each other, and be servants of Allah as brothers! The Muslim is the brother of another Muslim. He does not wrong him or humiliate him or look down upon him. Taqwa (mindfulness of Allah) is here!” and he pointed to his chest three times. “It is sufficient evil for a person to look down upon his brother Muslim. All of the Muslim is sacred to another Muslim: his life, his wealth, and his honor.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 032, Number 6219]

Abu Huraira () reported: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “Beware of speculation, for speculation is the most false speech. Do not seek out faults or spy on each other. Do not contend with or envy each other. Do not hate each other or turn away from each other. Be servants of Allah, as brothers!”

Whoever cuts off family will not enter Paradise

Jubair ibn Mut’im () reported on the authority of his father () that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: “The one who cuts off will not enter Paradise.” Ibn Umar said that Sufyan explained: “One who cuts off family ties will not enter Paradise.”

Hadith on Family: Those who are kind to their families in the face of harshness will be superior on Judgment Day

Abu Huraira () reported that a man said: “O Messenger of Allah! Indeed, I have relatives with whom I try to relate but they cut me off. I treat them well, but they treat me badly. I am forbearing with them, but they are harsh with me.” So the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “If it is as you say, then it is as if you threw hot ashes (i.e. they are earning sin), and there would always remain with you (support) from Allah that will keep you prominent over them as long as you adhere to this behavior.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 032, Number 6204]

Righteousness is to have good character, sin is known by human nature

Nawwas b. Sim’an al-Ansiri () reported: I asked the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) about righteousness and sin. He said: “Righteousness is to have good character and sin is what festers in your heart and you hate for people to know about it.”

[Sahih Muslim, Book 032, Number 6195]
