Remember its the Christians in western world who wholeheartedly hate Islam both as a religion and its political system and ideology, not the entire western world; in the past entire western world feared Islam (any form of it, religious, radical or ideological) due to presence of great Islamic powers, e.g. the Ottomans, rite in their neighborhood. However after the fall of Ottomans, last big Islamic power, the Islamic world was disorganized and subjugated by the west in such a way that they don't feel any real threat from Islam (like being occupied by a Muslim force or taken over by Islamic ideology); nevertheless radical Islam does hurt their activities and interests in the oil rich and strategically important middle eastern region, therefore both western governments and media are keen to single out and attack radical Islam but avoid coming into direct conflict with the whole Muslim world. Support for Arab spring and promoting nationalism in Islamic countries is also part of the strategy to counter spread of radical Islam in the Islamic world. But western people, particularly Christians, interpret this demonization of radical Islam by the governments and media in their own perspectives, therefore we see isolated attacks on Muslims and random fears of Islamic ideology taking over the west but there has not been any real systematic effort to thwart Islam and expel it from the western society (history tells that western governments are very much capable of systematically thwarting spread of any ideology they deem unfit for their societies, fascism and communism are two of the examples, there is no sign of such systematic campaign against Islam in the western world as of yet. Rather Islam as a religion is preferred over Christianity by more secular segments of western society which is the major reason of more western converts into Islam; but its the political system and political ideology of Islam which is despised in the west ).
