Doctoral degrees of up to three years duration. The candidates who wish to undertake extensive periods of fieldwork in home country.
As per the announcement it seems that these are collaborative scholarships that support financially and provide laboratory facilities to the doctoral students which are ready to undertake the some parts of their research/field work at their home country. As these scholarships donors prefer the research areas/topics related to candidate's home country or having some impact oh their home country that ensures that the candidates after completion will serve in their own county
One year research on a split-site basis, towards a Ph.D registered at a university in pakistan.

The candidates already registered in Ph.D Program already are given chance to work in the advanced research and technological laboratories of the UK, Canada, New Zealand etc so that the students can gain expertise in certain areas and they can initiate here in Pakistan as it has long lasting effects.
These candidates will be awarded Ph.D degree here in Pakistan as per rules but the benefit is that one can conduct partial work abroad on the funding of Common wealth scholarship committee.

It has nothing to do with regular NTS GAT tests, for common wealth scholarship NTS conducts separate test and for 2013, it has been fixed on 30 September 2012, the merit cut off will be prepared on the basis of that test only.
