Bro there are sports, like American Football, in which there is a concept of highest goal. Further, score is the most obvious grammatical mistake of Subject-Verb disagreement. Because with singular subject (one) the verb should be plural (scores) or in simple past or else. Therefore, it is clearly score which was wrongly used.
