Questions are asked, so subject is followed by ask+object+interrogative etc.
so we have seen that interrogative form in the first sentence changes into affirmative one in the second, we also omit the question mark in reporting a question.
If introductory verb is say in Direct speech, we change it into a verb of inquiry i-e ask, inquire, wonder etc.
If there is no interrogative word used in Direct speech, we use If or Whether
He said, "you are his son".Direct speech
He asked if/whether i was his son. Indirect speech
