Thumbs up GD & Interview

Well, my GD was on 21st Jan and I was fortunate enough to move on for the interview as well along with other 25 people .

Topic of GD was Is Long March a solution to Political/Economic problems of Pakistan

Our group was cooperative in nature and everyone gave time to the other and interruption was minimal. We were able to draw a conclusion over the statement a build a consensus.

I must admire the speediness of State Bank for conducting the GD. All the groups were done by 120 noon and result was displayed by 130 or 13:30.

However, the interviews started at 150 and my serial number was 13 . My turn came at around 18:45 and interview lasted for around 15 min.

Questions related to the following issues were asked.

1. Prudential Regulations regarding Credits.

2. Provisioning of loss in Credits

3. Usance LC and it types.

4. Export Re-Finance and Duty Drawback

5. CLR and Capital Adequacy Ratio (only question I passed)

5. Whether I am a book reader? Which book is my favorite and which I am studying currently?
I replied I am not a very regular book reader. Because of my job timings, which are in real 8:30 to 20:30, I find no time for such activities coz I am fond of playing cricket tourism, dramatics, music and socializing. Moreover, having a family and such hobbies leaves me with very less time to read books. However, my favorite is Pride & Prejudice as of date and I have started Pakistan: Beyond Crisis just yesterday . They asked about its author and I replied. I also told them the major contents of the chapter I was studying.

6. This job is in Karachi. Will you be able to settle there. If yes, will you be moving your family of going alone?

7. You were an MTO in a bank, then why a Public Limited Company. Is SBOTS just another job for you or are you serious?

8. You did O' Levels, then F.Sc (Pre-Engineering), then B.Sc (Maths, Stats, Economics) then MBA with interest in Marketing & Finance. You joined Ad agency, then a bank in which you served at 5 or 6 departments and now you have joined Admin in a Public Limited company. What can we infer from this bio-data of yours? What is common or correlation between this profile that we can classify as your aim.

9. Did you aspired to be at State Bank or are you just exploring an opportunity?

10. Don't you think your 4 years experience will be wasted as you will be equated with even freshers. How will you stand it?

11. What are the major functions of State Bank?

12. What are the current causes of crisis in Pakistan?

13. Dollar & Pound Rate? Which rate you use for making payment of Exports?

14. Is HR your priority as a department or can you work in any department?

15. Why did you leave your bank at a high rank and now are again entering banking on 2 grades down?

There were 4 people in panel who were very friendly but seemed well versed in judging people. I answered all questions honestly and for one question I did not know, I simply said sorry.

The guy asked you were in Banking for 2 years and 8 months, you joined as an MTO and you don't know this ratio?
I replied that my major domain of work was Foreign Trade where I spent 1 year & 6 months. There ratios pertain to Credits. The rest was on-the-job training and my role spent in various other departments of the bank. I believe one should give an honest opinion instead of beating about the bush,

Then he asked me Foreign Trade questions as mentioned above. And then, thank you followed.

Best of luck to all my fellows over here
