A wave of surged violence, indiscriminate suicide attacks and deteriorating law and order situation demonstrate the severity of extremism and militancy in pakistan. It has become a formidable force in pakistan. Extremism is a mental illness in which a person not only consider himself right but also want to impose his beliefs on other by force. It is interlinked with militancy in which a person oppose others considering them against his interest and try to bring about political or social change, in extreme ways. The twin menace threatens to tear apart the country's social fabric and unity. Islam is not a religion of extremism. Wrong interpretation of (Holy) Quran can mislead people. Spate suicide attacks, target killing, Lal masjid crisis,Malala yousafzai shooting attack and Murder of pakistani Governor Salman taseer are some of incidents that perspicuously show the potential severity of extremism and militancy in pakistan. The factors responsible for the rise of these twin menace are illiteracy, social injustice and failure of democracy. Some provocative events like war on terror and Lal masjid crisis added fuel to fire. During Soviet afghan war 1979, a militant struggle launched named as jihad. For this purpose madrassahs were opened that give training through brainwashing. These root causes make economy and politics unstable and law and order situation is deteriorating day by day. The whole country is wrapped into the cycle of violence and counter violence. The remedial measures needed to save our society from these twin menace. Government should maintain security and law and order .forces should fight against violent extremism and its toxic creed. For sure, it will help to make peaceful society, free from violence.
Democracy, equality and justice in society can act as vaccine for these infections and pakistan would come out of the ongoing crisis.
