You can block pop-ups by windows built-in utility. Go to control panel, internet options, privacy tab, here there will be an option of pop-up blocker. Turn it on by placing tick in check box. Further you may also adjust its sensitivity i.e low, medium or high from its settings.
External Ad-Block utilities in the form of extensions turn down the performance of browsers. In best computer practices third party solutions are only used when in house or built-in solutions are not present or they are in-efficient,as they put extra burden on machines.
