Of the many instruments to check a gentlemen, the felicitous one is to observe the way he uses power over the people surrounding him. The presence of gratefulness and affection in addition to power can mold a man's marshal into a gentleman's one. However, use of power just to meet one's own ends can entitle a person an avarice or a complacent man but not a gentleman.
