Excise and taxation is a provincial department;
Its prime duty is *the collection of revenue for government.
Excise and taxation punjab is the largest revenue collecting
Department of the province.
There are different sub heads of E&T deptt.eg

1.property tax branch,(tax on residential ,commercial,farm houses etc)

2.Motor registration,(dealing with registration of vehicles,transfer,token tax,withholding tax etc)

3.Professional tax br.(tax on different professions,like clinics,real estate,workshops,factories etc)

4.Excise branch(dealing with narcotics and alchol,capturing drug dealers,issuing liquir permits and licences,etc)

5.Entertainment branch(entertainment duty on cinema,theatre,horse racing,etc)

6.Hotel tax(bed tax) branch,

Cotton, distilleries etc.

Excise and taxation inspector holds the most significant role*
In all these sub branches.He has to detect taxable things,assess and propose tax,and later on collect the same.in excise branch, in addition to these,he is also tasked to capture/arrest drug dealers in collaboration with police,lodge cases and later prosecute the same.
So going back to your question about authority of E&t inspector in society;
If people have any concern with these heads, then certainly ETI holds a lot authority, otherwise it does not hold the kind nuisance value as enjoyed by police.
