Q Why we get education for better job or for a better character?
ANS:

INTRODUCTION

Before going to answer, first let's clear what is meant by education today...

is it getting a degree in Engineering, MBBS, MBA, BS, M.Phil, Ph.D, etc.?

is it learning skills like carpentry, electrician, designing, etc.?

is it getting a military education and training?

is it getting religious education?

Yes, all of the above are the education.

WHY WE GET EDUCATION?

There are various reasons that why one gets education:

1. In case of middle class and below middle class societies, the main purpose (besides others) of education is to acquire skills and knowledge that would be helpful in sustaining the necessity of a good life and improve their status to higher one.

2. In case of a upper class (economically very sound), the need of education is to enhance the status of an individual; family; or upper class society.

3. In case of very poor section of society, they do not have means to get their children or themselves better educated; if they do so, it would affect their daily earning that is barely sufficient to cover their necessities of life. However, they strive for getting good education in order to enhance their earning.

Therefore, the main purpose of education is to make one a contributive member of society and to make one able to sustain the needs of his family. But does one get a good character or better character after getting the above mentioned education?

DOES EDUCATION GUARANTEES GOOD CHARACTER?

1. Today, we see in Pakistan that some doctors are stealing kidneys and selling them to the foreigners on lucrative prices.

2. Yesterday, in Karachi, a recently built bridge has been collapsed; it is because of the dishonesty and greed of some blacksheeps that could be Engineers and high officials in the departments.

3. In Lal Masjid Crisis, when Maualana Abdul Aziz caught in fleeing by wearing a "Burqa", soon afterwards he said that "ISLAM ALLOWS FLEEING WITH A TACIT REFERENCE TO THE PROPHET'S (PBUH) FLEEING FROM MECCA TO MADINA" and in this way he justified his wearing of Burqa while fleeing. Isn't this gross betrayal of Muslims as well as maligning the religion Islam?

4. Lots of military personnels have been caught in corruption and various big scandals; for example, one of them is "Acquiring faulted trains" from China and afterwards the guilty military educated person said "It was in good-faith".

By seeing the above examples we see that getting education even religious one does not guarantee a sound and honest character.

WHAT IS REALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR A BETTER CHARACTER?

Off course, education is the necessity and it inculcates the utmost principles of making one honest, and having good character; but, it depends upon the person who acquiring it.

For example, if one getting religious education and learns that "Cheating" or "Lying" is a sin. He/She gets the knowledge or education but it depends on her to apply it. If he/she applies this learning practically and avoid "lying" and "cheating" then he/she has one of a good character, otherwise, not a good one.

Take the example of the profession of doctors; they take "HIPPOCRAT OATH" not to violate the medical ethics; their education taught them the qualities of a good character and practice but it depends upon the Doctor to apply it or not.

CONCLUSION

Now, the ultimate answer to your question:

By getting education means not that one is good in character, until or unless, he/she practically fulfills what an education taught him/her.

It depends upon us that how we realize the purpose of that good education. And also the purpose of this education is to give us important knowledge and skills necessary for our livelihood which is also according to a Hadees, "EARNING A LIVELIHOOD BY HONEST MEANS IS ALSO WORSHIP OF ALLAH"

To conclude, we can inculcate in our future generations to be credible in following the "Ethics", "Morals", "Lofty Principles of righteousness" in their personality. The initial days of children are the most important days in their life. Whatever they are taught have a lifelong influence upon their personality, behavior or conduct. Therefore, parents and guardians should be more conscious in moulding the character of the future doctors, engineers, leaders, technicians, scholars, etc.

And last but not the least, even an "illiterate sweeper" could be good and far more better in character, righteousness than a Professor, Doctor, Engineer, or whatever you could think of.
