Ma'am - Eliot is T.S. Eliot or George Eliot, T.S. Eliot was primarily known as a poet and George Elliot is a novel writer. Both, of these people were not known as critics.
Ma'am I have read all books of literature, even though I do not have degree in literature.
Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge were also poets. Hence, it can deduced that you have read wrong people for criticism. They were primarily poets. A modern day critic is Harold Bloom, also food critics are really ruthlessly.
