Life without Philosophy Is Like a Ship without Rudder(2008)

Life without philosophy is as silent as fish. Philosophy gives voice to silence of a man. It acquaints man with all crucial information needed to live meaningful life. This information instill into man that how to live, what is good, bad or evil. It also tells him what purpose of life and his existence is. Philosophy studies nature of the nature and passes the findings to the man.

Thales, an eminent philosopher in Greece lived from 624 BC to 527 BC, proved his mettle by working on science of politics, Biology, Ethics etc. Almost every pre-Socrates philosopher followed him and admired his writing. He explained natural phenomenon without reference to mythology; and his writing had a direct bearing upon people’s lives. Many philosophers, after him, followed in attempting to provide an explanation of ultimate substance, change, and the existence of this world. Thales’ rejection of mythology explanation became an essential idea for the scientific revolution, leading to the age of reflection or romanticism in science. Similarly, Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC), a Greek philosopher, also contributed to the fact that what is the reason behind men’s existence. His writing covers many subjects like linguistic, politics, government, ethics to name but a few. Today’s politics, economics, and government are greatly influenced by such philosopher.

In view of the above mentioned facts, there is no harm to say that philosophy has its own place in people’s lives. Today’s freedom of speech and reforms in many countries are predominantly attributed to these philosophers. They shaped the human lives in a meaningful manner, because life without philosophy is meaningless. WC(273)
