css is a really strange game....i hv failed this year 2....
i can't understand y am i being flunked in english every time (last time i failed in da same paper too), that is even more perplexing when i take into account the fact that I have graduated as MA Eng. Lit (First Class: First Position)
Dear FS, let me tell you something. getting an MA in English from a Pakistani University does not guarantee that you have excelled at the language. I have observed that most of the people with MAs in English lack basic language skills. the reason is obvious; they do not study the original text and they rely too much on the notes and khulasas, notably those of Kitab Mahal. now I have read the Kitab Mahal books. they are big blow to one's english skills. they are misspelled and grammatically flawed at most places.
my suggestion is to read a lot of the good books. books of foreign authors, for example. or read something like the economist, london, or newsweek or some other magazine of that sort. that will help you polish your english skills.
Oh, and dont forget a good dictionary. if you dont understand a word, consult a dictionary. no one knows the meanings of all the words. plus, even one word could be used in a nuanced way. that way you will build vocabulary and you will understand clearly the meaning of each word.
