According to Practical English Usage by Michael Swan, you can eliminate the 'that' only in the case if it's informal conversation or letter. But when you ask me this question, I take it in a stricter sense of English Grammar and thus assert that we can not remove it.

It's a personal opinion. I don't really mind if you disagree!
