It's totally reverse in reality what your friend has told you. They are not secular and by the way, you do not need to be worry if persons in panel are secular. Secular persons will not reject you just because you have beard and you are religious. For them, it does not matter whether you are Muslim, Hindu or belong to any other religion. They do not give importance to religion and ask questions that one should ask.
