As written in Kashf-ul-Mahjoob...Ashaab-e-Suffa were the first ones..
Among the very first books on Tasawwuf (Pure on Tasawwuf):-
1. "Kitab-ul-Murideen" by Sheikh Yahya bin Moaz Razi
2. "Kitab ar Reyayatul Haqooq by Sheikh Haris Muhasbi (Died 273 A.H) Very Difficult to find these...May be present with rare Sheikhs in Oman and Yemen...
Most reliable and old book is
"Kitab-ul-Lama" by Sheikh Abu-Nasar Abdullah bin Ali Siraj Tusi...It has also written in English with "Foreward" of Prof. Nicolsan..May be with these accounts you can find the origins...
One More Famous Book which is also too contemporary and best to my point of view to know "Tasawwuf" and it's origin is "Quwat-ul-Qaloob" by Sheikh Abu Talib Makki (386 A.H)
Imam Ghazali have praised about Abu Talib Makki as well in one of his books and is easily available from any Maktab..
