In my humble opinion, defining every terminology is not necessary unless you are writing a thesis, formal report or legal language.

you may be right.. but how can one argue without posing a thesis.. There are more dimentions to the topic.. first is what sort of identities have changed if any, second in past whether they remained unchanged or changed with time, what were agents and compare those with those of modern digitised technologies only then could one satisfy the topic. its specifically mentioned in instruction to use exposition, argumentation, narration and explanation and other modes. How could one even narrate or given arguments with a thesis..
